When I worked in Adult Protective Serves, the lonely ones were the sexiest to abuse, neglect, and exploit. Strong social relationships aren't a mandate, but as we age or go through life's infirmities, it's good to have a local circle of friends or family.

My sense is that sometimes people romanticize more extreme version. being alone because it's relaxed and they don't have to deal with nonsense. However they aren't thinking about these inevitabilities. We are intradependent social animals by nature.
