Delusions can be protective or even beneficial. However, that doesn't address whether or not they are delusions. Delusions persist in spite of contrary evidence or in the absence of any evidence at all.

The challenges are how subjective the definition of faith can be in relation to the definition of delusion and how to other consider religions who lay the same claim to truth.
